Ok so I’m not the first person to coin the phrase but it looks like these games have officially begun. Lindsey Vonn appears to be living up to the hype surrounding her this season by winning today’s DH. However, the real surprise was Julia Mancuso grabbing second place. Her best DH result in the past two years was earlier this season at Cortina d’Ampezzo where she finished in eighth place.
Also breathing a sigh of relief after placing 3rd in the men’s DH was Bode Miller. Although his Après performance may be lacking at these Olympics its nice to see that he is still one of the sport’s elite.
There were also some strong performances from the host nation in the opening two events with Erik Guay and Britt Janyk of Canada placing 5th and 6th respectively. Perhaps not what they were after, but respectable finishes for a team that has seen many of its medal hopefuls out with injury.
